{"id":941,"date":"2023-08-31T10:35:50","date_gmt":"2023-08-31T06:35:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/?p=941"},"modified":"2023-08-31T10:35:50","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T06:35:50","slug":"the-infinite-power-of-finite-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/2023\/08\/31\/the-infinite-power-of-finite-time\/","title":{"rendered":"The Infinite Power of Finite Time!"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gmail_default\"><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Time<\/em><\/span>\u00a0is what we\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>want most<\/em><\/span>, but what we\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>use worst<\/em><\/span>:\u00a0<strong>William Penn<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>We, as a culture, are yet to call time on the above reality.Though I have not read the book yet, I came across this\u00a0<strong>Oliver Burkeman<\/strong>\u00a0title &#8221;\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oliverburkeman.com\/books?mc_cid=55763a93cf&amp;mc_eid=caf24d118a\">Four Thousand Weeks<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8220;.\u00a0That&#8217;s the number of weeks in the average lifespan. Some years ago,\u00a0<strong>Dr Robert Cialdini<\/strong>\u00a0wrote his seminal classic &#8216;\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.influenceatwork.com\/7-principles-of-persuasion\/\">Principles of Persuasion<\/a><\/em>\u00a0&#8216; in which he argued about\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The Scarcity Principle<\/em><\/span>&#8211;\u00a0Simply put, people want more of those things they can have less of.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Without meaning to read out the morbid act, let&#8217;s remind ourselves that we all have a finite amount of time- no matter whatever situation or stage of life we are in. If we are ready to wake up to this smell of the coffee, the temptation would be very high to extract the maximum, do more, zero in on efficiency hacks\u00a0to up the ante and all and more of that. That said, if we aim to do that, we might be on the wrong track.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Most of us live with the stubborn idea that we\u2019ll always have tomorrow. But <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>sooner or later all of our tomorrows will run out. It is finite<\/em><\/span>.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Let the above not become a debilitating thought. Rather, use that as an invigorating tool<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">\u00a0<em>to design the life that you want to live<\/em>.\u00a0<em>To distill the trivial many to focus on the vital few<\/em>.\u00a0<em>To amp up courage to take the outrageous moonshots that\u00a0you were afraid to take. To give you the spunk that can go down to your every bone.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\">Probably, the route to take would be the\u00a0 &#8216;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>disciplined pursuit of less but better<\/em><\/span>&#8216;. What author\u00a0<strong>Greg McKeown<\/strong>\u00a0calls &#8216;\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Essentialism<\/em><\/span>\u00a0&#8216;.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-943\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Its-OVER.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2120\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"reader-text-block__paragraph\">We have:\u00a0One life to live. One life to die. One life to learn and practice what you have learnt. One life to learn multiple skills, arts, hobbies, sports\u2026multiple professions. One life to experience joy in what you perform. One life to share, give, pass on, teach and donate so that you\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><em>die empty<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0but\u00a0<strong>Rich<\/strong>\u00a0every which way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201c The<em>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">graveyard<\/span><\/em>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>is the richest place on earth<\/em><\/span>, because it is here that you will find all the hopes and dreams that were never fulfilled, the books that were never written, the songs that were never sung, the inventions that were never shared, the cures that were never discovered, all because someone was too afraid to take that first step, keep with the problem, or determined to carry out their dream.\u201d- so said\u00a0<strong>Les Brown<\/strong>.
