\u201cWhat the New Year brings to you will depend a great deal on what you bring to the New Year\u201d \u2013 Vern McLellan.<\/span><\/em><\/h5>\n

It is said that you may be whatever you resolve to be. Nothing relieves and ventilates the mind like a\u00a0resolution.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As we say adios to another year and get ready to welcome another, let us take a look at some potential resolutions that we will bravely (or tamely) bring to fore.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cI want to laugh more,\u00a0the<\/span> laughter that makes you cry and makes your sides ache<\/em>.\u201d Now that is worth a standing ovation<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u201cMy intention for 2023 is to replace mean thoughts with kind and patient ones<\/em>.\u201d Keep the applause going.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I stay resolved to take \u201ceverything (especially politics) and everyone less seriously and try to be the<\/span> best person I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Going further, another one can go like this..<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI resolve not to take anything personally or overthink or politicize any comments \u2026 just play dumb and not engage, like\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0robot, like I\u2019m Siri.\u201d<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n

A more succinct one would be..<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
\n
<\/div>\n
\u201cI want to be better at understanding others<\/em>.\u201d That’s a great starting point.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And a perennial one for a lot of us would be: \u201ctalk less, listen more<\/em>\u201d.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
” To live with gratitude and an acceptance of our mortality is\u00a0a<\/span> fine realization not only on New Year\u2019s Day, but every day<\/em> “.\u00a0 Give this the cult status<\/em>.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

Will be speaking for many of us when you say, \u201cLess screen time, more real-world time.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

<\/div>\n
How about ” from time to time, send handwritten snail-mailed notes\/letters to family and friends<\/em>.\u201d Definitely worth the ink that will be used.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

How about some idiosyncratic resolutions<\/em>?\u00a0Like \u201cI intend to eliminate\u00a0very\u00a0and\u00a0really from my vocabulary<\/em>\u201d. That is really<\/em> a very<\/em> good idea. Oops. Sorry.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I heard about\u00a0a resolution from a friend which was to have \u201csomeone repair\u00a0the<\/span> wristwatch his dad bought him for his high-school graduation in 1985, so he can wear it again<\/em>.\u201d This is truly timeless<\/em>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here’s one with a purpose ” I would like to continue and increasingly support biodiversity in urban areas<\/em> “.\u00a0 Enrollments are open. Let’s go for it.<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
That seems\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0lot more complicated than\u00a0my\u00a0<\/i>big idea<\/em> of going back down one pants size, but\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0plan\u2019s\u00a0a<\/span>\u00a0plan.<\/div>\n

 <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some of us are charging right at 2023 with angry-rhino determination. Keep the fire in the belly burning.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
