{"id":679,"date":"2022-12-01T06:13:35","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T06:13:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/?p=679"},"modified":"2022-12-01T06:13:35","modified_gmt":"2022-12-01T06:13:35","slug":"belief-it-or-knott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/2022\/12\/01\/belief-it-or-knott\/","title":{"rendered":"Belief it (or) Knott!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In our lives, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of truth.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We <em>listen and lean towards opinions that make us feel good <\/em>rather than<em> ideas that will make us think hard<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We <em>regard disagreement as a threat to our egos, <\/em>rather than<em> an opportunity to learn.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We, <em>by design<\/em>, surround ourselves with people <em>who echo and endorse our thinking and beliefs<\/em>, <em>rather than gravitating toward those who challenge and question our thought process<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>The result is that our beliefs get brittle long before our bones do.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Intelligence is no cure; in fact it can even be a curse<\/em>( we have heard of &#8221; <em><strong>Curse of Knowledge<\/strong><\/em> &#8220;, haven&#8217;t we? ).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>There&#8217;s strong evidence that being good at thinking can make us sub optimal and worse at rethinking<\/em>. The brighter we are, the more blinded and limited we become to our own thinking. We short change ourselves. Constantly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We don&#8217;t have to <em>believe<\/em> everything we <em>think<\/em> and <em>internalize<\/em> everything we <em>feel.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Give yourselves an invitation or permission to let go of views that are no longer serving you well. In lieu of that, <strong><em>prize mental flexibility, humility,\u00a0 and unabashed curiosity over foolish consistency<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>There\u2019s immense power in intentionally creating and opening the doors that accommodate you<\/em>\u2014instead of shrinking yourself in order to squeeze through whatever door happens to be there.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>If knowledge indeed is power, then knowing what we don&#8217;t know is wisdom<\/strong><\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once you\u2019ve decided what you want from life, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>go off-menu<\/strong><\/em><\/span>. Ask for it.
