One\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">definition<\/span><span style=\"color: #2e2e2e;\">\u00a0is \u201c<\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #2e2e2e;\">being one more in addition to one or more of the same kind<\/span>,<\/strong>\u201d like having\u00a0<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>\u00a0car payment or eating\u00a0<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>\u00a0piece of pizza (two more things none of us likely need).<\/p>\n<p>But \u201c<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>\u201d also means \u201c<strong>different or distinct from the one first considered<\/strong>.\u201d That puts an entirely different spin on things, and putting a space between the letters underscores the point.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<b>world rarely needs \u201c<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>,\u201d<\/b>\u00a0but it\u00a0<b>will always welcome<\/b>\u00a0\u201c<b>an othe<\/b><b>r<\/b>\u201d &#8212; particularly in the most mature, crowded and commoditized industries, where\u00a0<b>sameness leads to staleness.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Time after time,\u00a0<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>\u00a0product or service gets superseded by an other product or service, making our lives more pleasant, more efficient, more productive, or better in a host of additional ways.<\/p>\n<p>Seeking &#8220;<b>an other<\/b>&#8221; is a good <strong>strategy<\/strong> to keep pace with the inexorable march of creative destruction. In the marketplace,\u00a0<b>what is, will not always be, and what is to come, has not always been<\/b>. The task of\u00a0<b>strategists<\/b>\u00a0is to be\u00a0<b><span class=\"il\">agents<\/span>\u00a0of creation<\/b>\u00a0rather than\u00a0<b>victims of destruction<\/b>. Our challenge is to\u00a0<b>pursue the new and unproven<\/b>\u00a0even as we\u00a0<b>preserve the existing and profitable.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Unless you can ensure your company, brand or service is continually and legitimately &#8220;an other,&#8221; it\u2019ll end up becoming just &#8220;<span class=\"il\">another<\/span>.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/b><\/p>\n<p>We are <strong>tribal<\/strong> by nature. Human beings have evolved in that fashion. Therefore the &#8216; <strong>herd mentality<\/strong> &#8216;. Yes, we have heard that before. And this as well. Birds of the same feather. Flocking together.
