And when you encounter anyone from any of the 5 South Indian states, be it Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh or Karnataka, pay attention. Do you even remotely hear them speak Hindi<\/em><\/strong> in the manner that Bollywood makes them out to be – be it Mehmood in Padosan, Mithun Charakavarty in Agneepath or Deepika Padukone in Chennai Express or Mukri in Bombay to Goa?<\/em><\/strong> Who are these coveted lot getting away with blue murder?<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Last week I was watching an episode of ” Sa Re Ga Ma<\/em><\/strong> ” on Zee<\/strong>. To give credit where it is due, the show has lavishly mounted sets, great orchestration arrangements, lavish embellishment of chorus singers and a decent jury panel. Shreyas Talpade<\/strong> is the host of the show. Before a singer from Kerala came for her rendition, we had to tolerate Shreyas mouthing absolute gibberish for almost 2 and a half minutes. Speaking in the same ” Bollywood Modeled South Indian Style Of Speaking Hindi <\/em><\/strong>“. And he genuinely thought he was being funny (hearing the canned laughter <\/em><\/strong>maybe). In reality, it was intolerable. And I am being polite. One could see Shankar Mahadevan, <\/em><\/strong>one of the judges cringe a bit. And as a fellow Indian, a fellow South Indian, I respect him for that, among other things. That was the trigger for me to switch off and move on.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Question:<\/em><\/strong> Bollywood, and the TV industry that feeds into it and off it, if you are so bereft of ideas, and your only way out to tickle a funny bone is gross misrepresentation of a style of speaking of a certain section of our population, you are only demonstrating unabashed ignorance and taking the common sense of the Indian viewers for granted. Which is not new to Bollywood, let me add.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And as for Reality TV singing shows<\/em><\/strong>, if Abhijeet Sawant<\/em><\/strong> can win Indian Idol<\/em><\/strong>, and if Arijit Singh<\/em><\/strong> can be eliminated in Fame Gurukul<\/em><\/strong>, we know the reality.
