What if the most profound thing you can leave behind isn\u2019t a mark\u2014but an absence<\/em><\/span>?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mikko Harvey<\/span> <\/em><\/a>whispers: \u201cPlease forget your scarf in my life and come back later for it<\/em><\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We spend our lives clinging to people, places, and identities as if they were lifelines. We believe if we let go\u2014even a little\u2014the thread will snap. So we hold tight. We suffocate the very thing we love. But Harvey\u2019s line is a gentle, devastating nudge: What if you left a part of yourself behind on purpose<\/em><\/span>? Not out of carelessness, but out of trust<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

Think about it. A scarf is intimate. It carries your warmth, your scent, your comfort. To “forget” it in another’s life is to say, I trust you to keep my warmth safe. To “come back later” is to say, I believe this connection can survive the distance.<\/p>\n

The Reason We Never Say Goodbye Properly<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some people you meet, and something happens.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Not romance. Not friendship. Something smaller \u2014 and stranger. A five-minute conversation that refuses to end when the conversation ends.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Mikko Harvey<\/em><\/span> knew this. So he wrote a line disguised as nothing \u2014 a scarf, forgotten on purpose \u2014 and hid inside it the oldest human wish:\u00a0let there be a reason to come back.<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We do this constantly. We just don’t call it poetry.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The book we lend and never chase down. The playlist we send “for later.” The “let’s continue this sometime” we half-mean and half-hope for. We are all scattering scarves \u2014 small, deliberate forgettings \u2014 across the lives of people we aren’t ready to lose.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Because endings are unbearable. But\u00a0unfinished<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 unfinished is alive<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Here’s the provocation<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What if you stopped trying to make every goodbye complete?<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What if, instead, you left something behind on purpose \u2014 a question unanswered, a thought half-said, a door not quite shut? Not because you’re avoiding closure. Because you’re choosing continuation.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The people who matter don’t need a perfect ending. They need an open loop.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So the next time you leave a room, a relationship, a city, a version of yourself \u2014<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Don’t tie the bow. Leave the scarf.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
