Honestly did not know that a World Emoji Day<\/em><\/span> existed on July 17th. Since it does apparently, here we go.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Caveat Emptor<\/span><\/em><\/strong>:The caption has been inspired by the iconic Kishore Kumar<\/em><\/span> song,R D Burman<\/span><\/em> composed gem from Amar Prem<\/em><\/span>, ” O Maji Re<\/em> <\/span><\/a>” beautifully penned by Anand Bakshi<\/em><\/span>. We are rocking the boat a bit with this one.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n This is about how a tiny yellow face took over our brain, our texts, and quite possibly, our soul.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n In the beginning, there was the word. Then came the wink. And then civilization collapsed into a single 🍆.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n How Tiny Yellow Faces Hijacked Human Civilization<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Somewhere between Shakespeare<\/em><\/span> and WhatsApp<\/em><\/span>, humanity took a wrong turn.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Or perhaps a right one.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After spending thousands of years inventing language, grammar, punctuation, poetry, literature, essays, novels and love letters, we collectively decided that the best way to express ourselves was:<\/p>\n 😂<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Three thousand years of linguistic evolution. Reduced to a crying-laughing potato.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Welcome to the Emoji Economy<\/em><\/span>. Or How We Outsourced Our Souls to a Yellow Blob.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A place where:<\/p>\n 👍 can mean “Great!” <\/p>\n Entire relationships have collapsed because somebody sent a 👍 when a ❤️ was expected.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Emojis: Because ‘I love you’ takes too long to type”<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Here’s a disturbing fact:<\/span><\/em> The most read “word” in human history might be a yellow circle with no nose.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Welcome to the Emoji Age<\/em><\/span> \u2014 where Shakespeare<\/em><\/span> writes “💔” and calls it a sonnet, where your boss sends you “👍” and you spend three hours decoding whether you’re promoted or fired, and where a single “🙂” from your mother means you are absolutely<\/em><\/span> in trouble.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n An age where your personality isn\u2019t your star sign\u2014it\u2019s your <\/span>emoji keyboard<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/span>. And dare I tell you: we are messed up<\/em><\/span><\/span>. Gloriously, hilariously, thumb-scrollingly messed up.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n A Brief History Of Tiny Chaos<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Emojis were invented in Japan in 1999 by Shigetaka Kurita<\/em><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The original set contained just 176 tiny icons.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Little did he know he was creating the world’s fastest-growing language.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Today there are thousands.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Soon we’ll need translators for the translators.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n a) Personality Types via Emoji Use<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Forensics User<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(👀🤔📊): Uses emojis like evidence. Will respond to \u201cI love you\u201d with a magnifying glass.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n The Over-Explainer<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(😂😂😂😂😂): Sends five crying-laughing emojis for a mildly funny cat video. Panics if you send only one.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n The Passive-Aggressive Poet<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(👍): That thumbs-up means \u201cI have filed your message under \u2018trash\u2019 and will never speak of it again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n The Thirst Trap<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0(💦🌶️🔥): Everything is a double entendre. Surely.<\/p>\n The Thirst Trap<\/span><\/em><\/span>\u00a0<\/em><\/span>(💦🌶️🔥): Everything is a double entendre. Including their grocery list.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The Charts Don’t Lie<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n The world’s most-used emoji? 😂 \u2014 Face with Tears of Joy<\/span>.<\/em> Basically, humanity’s coping mechanism.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n After that( a close second, mind you): ❤️, 🤣, 👍, 😭.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n WhatsApp<\/span><\/em> runs on ❤️.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Twitter\/X worships<\/span><\/em> 💀 (because everything is dead, apparently).<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Instagram<\/em><\/span> breathes ✨🙌🔥.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n LinkedIn<\/em> <\/span>\u2014 God help us \u2014 has discovered 🚀, and cannot stop launching imaginary rockets.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Can An Emoji Tell A Story?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Absolutely. Here\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>The Great Gatsby<\/span><\/em><\/span> in 6 emojis: <\/span>🥂💵👀🏎️💔🔫<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Reads faster than the audiobook. And somehow hurts the same.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 👨💼➡️🏦💰➡️🏠❤️👩➡️👶➡️📈➡️💀⚰️👼- Well, that’s an entire Bollywood film<\/span>.<\/em> You’re welcome.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Are Emojis Replacing Language?<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fear not. Not really. They’re becoming emotional subtitles.<\/p>\n Language tells us what happened.
