We&#8217;re culturally programmed to calculate risk. What we&#8217;re not taught is how to calculate the cost of inaction. What is the price of the book unwritten? The business unlaunched? The love undeclared? The adventure untaken? These costs don&#8217;t show up on any balance sheet, but they accumulate in the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>currency of regret<\/em><\/span> \u2013 the most painful form of emotional debt. So, get ready to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/2022\/04\/10\/die-empty\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Die Empty<\/span><\/em><\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re a zeitgeist of overqualified, under-actualized dreamers. PhDs driving taxis not because they must, but because taking the leap feels more terrifying than staying put.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We all would remember when the late <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Ratan Tata<\/em><\/span>(RIP) acquired Jaguar Land Rover in 2008? The global economy was having a proper meltdown. Financial experts were fashionably predicting apocalypse. And there&#8217;s Tata, casually dropping $2.3 billion on luxury car brands like it&#8217;s a Tuesday shopping spree. The audacity! The madness! The&#8230; sheer genius that transformed Tata Motors&#8217; global footprint forever.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Life&#8217;s dashboard has no &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>certainty<\/em><\/span>&#8221; gauge. Never has, never will. Yet we have perfected the art of waiting for the perfect moment \u2013 that mythical confluence of stellar alignments, family approvals, and financial security that would make even the gods say, &#8220;Damn, that&#8217;s some good timing.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But here&#8217;s the dirty little secret the universe doesn&#8217;t advertise on its cosmic billboard:\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The perfect moment is whenever you decide to jump.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Every day you delay bringing your idea into action, you pay a tax\u2014the &#8220;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>What If?&#8221; tax.<\/em><\/span> What if you\u2019d started that business in 2020? What if you\u2019d invested in that idea? What if you\u2019d asked that person out? The richest people in the world aren\u2019t those with the most money\u2014they\u2019re those with the fewest regrets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Ideas are aplenty but ideas without action are regrets.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Remember when <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Nike<\/em> <\/span>said \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Just Do It<\/em><\/span>\u201d? Most of us replied, \u201cSure, right after I update my LinkedIn bio and align my chakras.\u201d We are the \u2018wait-for-the-right-time\u2019 generation. Breaking news:\u00a0<strong>\u201c<\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Right Time\u201d (or &#8221; Someday &#8220;) is a retired mythological creature who now lives with Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It is not difficult to identify the real problem. We\u2019ve become over thinkers, under doers. Risk-averse, over-prepared, permission-seeking approval junkies. We download courses, attend webinars, rewatch TED talks, read <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/jamesclear.com\/atomic-habits\">Atomic Habits<\/a><\/em><\/span>, but refuse to light the atomic bomb of action. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>We confuse being \u201cready\u201d with being \u201csafe.\u201d <\/em><\/span>Truth? You\u2019re never fully ready.<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>But you\u2019re always one decision away from momentum.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2119\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/LEAP-OF-FAITH-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2313\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t mean to bring this train into the provocation station but sometimes we need to call a spade a shovel. So, some gut punches if you will please-<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>What brilliant idea have you been sitting on because your Canva presentation isn\u2019t \u201cready\u201d? <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>What masterpiece is dying inside your Notes app because you\u2019re scared of trolls on LinkedIn? <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>How many years will you give to rehearsing while someone with half your talent and zero fear just ships it raw?<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The evidence is everywhere. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Sara Blakely (SPANX)<\/em><\/span>: No biz degree. No business plan. Just one butt-saving(pardon the pun) prototype and a gut feeling. She didn\u2019t wait to &#8220;perfect&#8221; it. She went for it. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Richard Branson:<\/em><\/span> \u201cScrew it, let\u2019s do it.\u201d His business model was often: jump first, plan during free fall. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Airbnb:<\/em><\/span> Three broke dudes renting out air mattresses during a design conference. Not scalable? Not fundable? Too weird? $100 billion valuation says otherwise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Closer home in India- here&#8217;s some homegrown heat. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Ritesh Agarwal (OYO)<\/em><\/span>: Dropped out, messed up, learned on the go, pivoted, scaled like wildfire. Not by waiting. By\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>doing<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Zerodha:<\/em> <em>Nithin Kamath<\/em><\/span> ignored VCs and fancy jargon. He just went for it, building a product that traders actually\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>wanted<\/em><\/span> to use. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Bira 91:<\/em><\/span> When <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Ankur Jain<\/em><\/span> launched it, India was already saturated with Kingfishers and Heinekens. But he saw the gap. Went for it. Now it\u2019s India&#8217;s coolest hipster beer. While reinforcing what one calls in marketing &#8221; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>the late mover advantage<\/em><\/span> &#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There is no secret sauce. Or there is. I don&#8217;t know. But, some elementary stuff here- <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Motion beats meditation. Imperfect action beats perfect procrastination. Done is sexier than pending.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Because no one ever became legendary by being \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>almost<\/em><\/span>\u201d ready.<br \/>\nOr by Googling &#8220;Is now a good time to launch?\u201d for the 374th time.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Success Is Not for the Prepared. It\u2019s for the Recklessly Committed. <\/em><\/span>Look at stand-up comics bombing on stage. Look at first-time founders burning cash and karma. Look at indie musicians uploading to Spotify from their bathrooms.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They\u2019re not waiting. They\u2019re\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>shipping<\/em><\/span>. They\u2019re\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>learning<\/em><\/span>. They\u2019re\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>bleeding confidence<\/em><\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>bandaging feedback<\/em><\/span>. Meanwhile, you\u2019re over here refreshing your inbox like a nervous intern.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Look at all these examples:- Was <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Zomato<\/em><\/span> ready when it started with a PDF menu aggregator? Was <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Apple<\/em><\/span> perfect when it launched the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>iPhone<\/em><\/span> without copy-paste? Was <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Ranveer Singh<\/em><\/span> ready for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Bollywood<\/em><\/span>? Dude just\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>went for it<\/em>,<\/span> wardrobe and all. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Unacademy<\/em><\/span><strong>:<\/strong>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Roman Saini<\/em> <\/span>and his co-founders didn\u2019t wait for permission to disrupt education. They started by uploading free tutorials on YouTube, and now millions of students are \u201cgoing for it\u201d every day. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Patagonia:<\/em><\/span>\u00a0When they told customers \u201cDon\u2019t Buy This Jacket,\u201d they weren\u2019t just selling outerwear, they were selling a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>movement<\/em><\/span>. Sometimes going for it means telling people to do the opposite of what you\u2019re selling. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Nike<\/em><\/span><strong>:<\/strong> \u201c<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Just Do It<\/span><\/em>\u201d isn\u2019t a tagline, it\u2019s a philosophy. Nike sells the idea that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>greatness is a decision, not a birthright<\/em><\/span>. (And let\u2019s be real, most of us are more \u201ccouch potato\u201d than athlete, but we buy the shoes anyway-because hope springs eternal.)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Perfection is procrastination in lipstick<\/em><\/span>. Ship it. Flaws and all. The world needs messy courage. Go for it. Because hesitation is not a legacy. Comfort zones are where dreams go to die.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, let&#8217;s drive home the truth. You weren\u2019t born to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>rehearse<\/em><\/span>. You weren\u2019t born to ask for bloody\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>permission<\/em><\/span>. You weren\u2019t born to die with\u00a014 domain names, 37 unfinished Canva decks, and a \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>someday<\/em><\/span>\u201d side hustle that\u2019s older than your LinkedIn password.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, hear this loud and clear: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Stop flirting with your potential and start making out with your possibilities.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Go for it. Even if you don\u2019t have the map, the budget, or a goddamn clue.<br \/>\nBecause <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>hesitation is just\u00a0ambition wearing anxiety as cologne.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The world doesn\u2019t need another thinker. It needs more glorious, reckless, action-fueled DOERS. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>You are one idea away from your breakout moment \u2014 if only you&#8217;d stop treating your brilliance like it\u2019s under NDAs and non-compete clauses. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>No more marination. No more mood boards. No more \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>one day<\/em><\/span>\u201d. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Today is that one day. So\u2026 just bloody GO FOR IT.<\/em><\/span> If not now, when?
