Long Live Work!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I am not sure if this would sound like Aesops Fables.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Once upon a time, in a fluorescent-lit jungle full of cubicles, humans woke up, put on pants (sometimes), and went to places called &#8220;offices&#8221; where they\u2026 did things. They were called &#8220;employees.&#8221; They had bosses, parking spots, water cooler gossip, and an inexplicable addiction to Excel.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But that world? <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>It\u2019s dead<\/em><\/span><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0Buried somewhere between fax machines and annual appraisals.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Employment as we knew it is over<\/span><\/em>. And no, this isn\u2019t a LinkedIn humblebrag post about freelancing from Bali with a MacBook and a matcha latte.<br \/>\nThis is a hard stare at reality, iced with a slice of truth and served with zero filters.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s take a look at what has seen the &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>sell by expiry date<\/em> <\/span>&#8216;- The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>9 to 5 rigmarole: <\/em><\/span>It is now officially a punchline in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Gen Z memes<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The Org Chart<\/em><\/span><strong>:<\/strong> Aka the human zoo layout. Looks pretty. Does nothing. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Loyalty to a logo:<\/em><\/span>People are loyal to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>purpose<\/em><\/span>, not pension plans. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>One Career Forever:<\/em><\/span>\u00a0That\u2019s like committing to one brand of cereal for life. Madness.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandknewmag.com\/uspunique-selling-proposition-is-passe-brands-bring-on-ufpunique-feelings-proposition\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Work is no longer a place you go to<\/span><\/em><\/a>. It is a thing that you plug into. Companies now tap skills\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>on demand<\/em><\/span> \u2014 designers from Ukraine, coders in Bangalore, strategists in Madrid \u2014 all working on the same problem while never wearing pants. For eg look at Netflix&#8217;s global content team? Scattered across continents, united by Slack and sarcasm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The emergence of a new class: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The Creator Employee<\/em><\/span>: Today\u2019s talent doesn\u2019t want to be\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>owned<\/em><\/span>. They want to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>create<\/em><\/span>. And smart orgs? They encourage it.<br \/>\nThink of your team as a bunch of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Netflix Originals<\/em><\/span>, not reruns of a 90s sitcom. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Duolingo<\/em><\/span>\u2019s social media team is a meme machine. People stay for the work, not for the job title.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The whole <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">balance<\/span><\/em> shtick assumes work and life are opponents.<br \/>\nThey\u2019re not. It\u2019s a dance. Some days the DJ plays Beyonc\u00e9. Some days it&#8217;s tax audit blues.\u00a0 Parents on <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Zoom<\/em> <\/span>calls with toddlers crashing in the background? That\u2019s not unprofessional. That\u2019s\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>real<\/em>.<\/span> It is not work-life balance. It is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>work-life blending<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Employment is dead. But work? <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Work is more alive, electric, creative, and rebellious than ever<\/em><\/span><strong>. <\/strong>And the organisations that get it? They won\u2019t be employers. They\u2019ll be\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>magnets<\/em><\/span><strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So the rallying cry for wanting to be future-ready organisations would read something like this. Replace hierarchy with\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>fluidity<\/em><\/span><strong>. <\/strong>Kill the idea of <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">clocking in.<\/span><\/em> Embrace <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>outputs over hours<\/em><\/span><strong>. <\/strong>Don\u2019t hire people to control them. Hire them to\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>unleash them<\/em><\/span><strong>.\u00a0 <\/strong>Offer <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>meaning<\/em><\/span>. Or offer ping pong tables. But don\u2019t pretend the second is a substitute for the first. Hey organisations, adapt or go obsolete.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The needle has moved. If you cared to notice. You&#8217;re not building teams anymore. You&#8217;re\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>curating energy<\/em><\/span><strong>. <\/strong>You&#8217;re not offering jobs. You&#8217;re\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>offering journeys. Work <\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">isn&#8217;t a place. It&#8217;s a <\/span><em>vibe. <\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The <\/span><em>cubicle <\/em><span style=\"color: #000000;\">is the new <\/span><em>coffin. If your employees can&#8217;t create, they will quit.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>future of work is so last decade<\/em><\/span>. We are in the age of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>task force<\/em><\/span>, NOT work force. Talent doesn\u2019t line up. It drops in. Executes. Vanishes like Batman. The smart organisations are killing time sheets and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>tracking impact<\/em><\/span> instead. They are ditching office politics for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>async magic<\/em><\/span>. Letting people work when they are most dangerous( yes, even at 2.27 am). Thy are building cultures of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>trust<\/em><\/span>, not <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>surveillance software<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The sooner we realise that <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>employment is a 90s rom-com while work today is a Tarantino flick, the better<\/em>. <em>Employment is a leash. Work is a parachute.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Employment is a fossil. Work is a festival.<\/em><\/span> One\u2019s stiff and regulated. The other\u2019s wild, weird, and\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>wonderfully alive<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So ask yourself: Are we a workplace\u2026 or a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>launchpad<\/em><\/span>? Are we building cubicles\u2026 or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>communities<\/em><\/span>? Do our people <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>work for us<\/em><\/span>\u2026 or do they\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>come alive with us<\/em><\/span>?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Choose wisely. The<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/2024\/04\/30\/telling-the-talent-tale\/\"> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>talent<\/em><\/span> <\/a>isn\u2019t waiting. It\u2019s\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>swiping right on better options. <\/em><\/span>Full-time employee is now <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Corporate Sanskrit<\/em><\/span>. \u00a0People aren&#8217;t your resources, they&#8217;re <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>your investors<\/em><\/span>.
