McCatchy<\/em><\/span>\u00a0captured this essential fact beautifully in his observation that\u00a0\u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>love is the quality of attention we pay to things<\/em>.<\/span>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As some wise man said, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>don&#8217;t just move, move forward<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0 The things that are craving for our attention is like a bottomless pit. Social media, emails, OTT, meetings, monitoring stock markets, entertaining and all of that. All of this means the direction, energy and time of our attention is all outward, external.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And because life is not a spectator sport to remain on the sidelines and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>react<\/em><\/span> to what others are doing, accomplishing- it is for you to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>make your own moves<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Busy is not a benchmark to get carried away by<\/em><\/span>. Though our zeitgeist will not encourage anything else. Busy people are just ticking off the tasks&#8217; boxes one by one. The idea is to move the needle and focus your attention on what you can do <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>to add value, create impact<\/em><\/span>. Treating time and attention like an investment\u00a0 wherein the impact and value you create is the biggest return you can expect.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The toss up is between spending your time or investing your time<\/em><\/span>!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Imagine the amount of energy that you can have back at your disposal when attention is inward, on what you are supposed to do rather than expend it un gainfully externally, bothered about reacting to what others are doing. Please don&#8217;t be so generous with your attention and do not give it away freely. It is said that\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity<\/em><\/span>. So before you start your charitable work of distributing it outward, reconsider, introspect and use it for your next <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Guernica_(Picasso)\">Guernica(Picasso)<\/a>. Or whatever lights up your day. Because <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>diluted attention<\/em><\/span> means you are actually dimming your inner fire, the spark.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The temptation in wanting a piece of &#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>what&#8217;s happening there<\/em><\/span> &#8216; is high. When you begin to internalise your attention, you get back the fuel that you have been scattering away aimlessly. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Good work<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>great art<\/em>\u00a0<em>comes from\u00a0deep focus<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>deep work<\/em>. <em>Our<\/em>\u00a0<em>ability to be prolific, create art that resonates, that strikes a chord , tug at the heartstrings and hit people in the face with a crowbar<\/em>\u00a0<em>depends on<\/em>\u00a0<em>our ability to focus<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1748\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/Attention-Piece.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2000\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is not a rant about shutting the world out. Not in the least. But a rallying cry for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>being more you, more grounded, more curious about your own experience first<\/em><\/span>. This is the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>shift<\/em><\/span> that will disengage you from the &#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>autopilot<\/em> <\/span>&#8216; mode and when you take charge, rather than being dictated by the external world. That is when you begin to lead the life that you have not been living, create the things that you so badly wanted to.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Consider for a moment the kind of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>mental world<\/em><\/span>\u00a0we can construct when we\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>dedicate<\/em>\u00a0<em>significant time and attention<\/em><\/span> to our <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>deep endeavors<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Your world is the outcome of what you pay attention to<\/em>.<\/span> Period.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Attention is the currency of your achievement.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The world will still be there when you look up from doing what lights your fire.
