That birds of the same feather must flock together. Swayed by the wisdom of the crowds. Or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>collective bias<\/em><\/span>? If ain&#8217;t broke, why mend it? They stick their neck out to maintain the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>status quo<\/em><\/span>. Their obsessive love affair is with the <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">state of<\/span><\/em> <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>impasse<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>SOS( Sea of Sameness)<\/em><\/span> is a derivative of the increasingly commoditised world we inhabit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But, if we are leading a project or leading a company, especially a large one, part of our core responsibility is rewrite the default. To rock the boat. To hoover away the legacy mindsets and bring new perspectives and fresh ideas in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Leaders and entrepreneurs face two vastly different kinds of risks. One is that their organisation took a moonshot, braved the odds and made a bold move. In the process, the project bombs or in other words , they <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>sink the ship<\/em><\/span>. The other kind of risk is that their organization could have taken a risk and reaped handsome rewards, but they let the opportunity pass. In another sense, they <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>miss the boat<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1674\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Creative-Process.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"725\" height=\"948\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Needless to say, the most remarkable ideas are counter intuitive. They go against the flow. Forget Blue Ocean, they are actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/jeroenkraaijenbrink\/2022\/03\/29\/what-are-green-swans-and-why-they-matter\/#:~:text=According%20to%20his%20book%2C%20Green,%E2%80%9D%20As%20Elkington%20adds%2C%20%E2%80%9CToo\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Green Swans<\/em><\/span><\/a>. Or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Purple Cows<\/em><\/span>. Playing it safe is fraught with the highest risk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Michelangelo\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Michelangelo<\/em><\/span><\/a> famously said, \u201cThe greater danger for most of us lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low, and achieving our mark.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1673\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/Too-many-ads-.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"726\" height=\"949\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a very real sense, the first job of leadership is to identify and overcome the costs of complacency.We don\u2019t want to indulge in a trade off- where one sacrifices the remarkable parts of an idea in exchange for the comfort of a smoother ride.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>High time to think higher, better. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandknewmag.com\/knew-thinking-knew-possibilities\/\">New thinking brings in new possibilities<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Organisations(especially the big ones) revel in herd mentality thinking.
