Probably an outcome of observing people (yours truly included) unwilling to look up from our &#8221; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>ledger of lack<\/em> <\/span>&#8220;. Big Tech and their well( or is it veil) crafted algorithms nudging you perennially into FOMO( Fear of Missing Out) mode, never lets you off the hook.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>perfect<\/em> <\/span>(in lieu of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>being content<\/em><\/span>) is the default expectation dancing in our heads all the time, it is an unattainable destination that is rarely reached taking us down the rabbit hole of wanting\u00a0 <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>more<\/em><\/span>\u00a0 in comparison to someone else, as what you are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>whining<\/em><\/span> about is that you <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>never have enough<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The only thing that whining or complaining does is to convince other people\u00a0that you are not in control<\/em>.<\/span> Helpful? Far from it. And for all those who are under the mistaken impression that whining burns calories, sorry to disappoint you..it doesn\u2019t!!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are far more blessed than the million plus people who will not survive this week. If you can read this blog then you are far more fortunate than the millions who cannot read it at all. Are you ready to compare now?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Nobody is going to invite you and say \u2018\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>here\u2019s some cheese to go with your whine<\/em> <\/span>\u201c- Whining, at best, is a symptom, it\u2019s rarely a cure for anything. So, you know what to opt out of!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1586\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/IS-SOMEONE-RINGING-YOUR-BELL.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2081\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We are all fellow travelers in the <a href=\"https:\/\/thedecisionlab.com\/reference-guide\/psychology\/hedonic-treadmill\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>hedonic treadmill<\/em><\/span><\/a>. The hedonic treadmill( or <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>hedonic adaptation<\/em><\/span>) is the idea that an individual&#8217;s level of happiness, after rising or falling in response to positive or negative life events, ultimately tends to move back toward where it was prior to these experiences. Leading to the never ending pursuit for <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>more<\/em><\/span>. Exactly what big brands tap into- the attraction of &#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>the thrill of the chase<\/em><\/span> &#8220;- the <a href=\"https:\/\/everhour.com\/blog\/shiny-object-syndrome\/#:~:text=Shiny%20object%20syndrome%20is%20when,the%20rounds%20within%20the%20industry.\">shiny new object<\/a> syndrome.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, time to step off the hedonic treadmill. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Elimination and subtraction is a powerful proxy to make progress<\/em><\/span>. So is <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>discomfort<\/em><\/span>. But the jury seems to be still out on that since we live in the \u2018<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Republic of Not Enough<\/em><\/span>\u2018 and \u2018<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>more<\/em><\/span>\u2018 is the operative four letter word.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Comparison is an act of violence against the self. It is a thug that robs your joy.
