Talent<\/em><\/span>– what a word!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n I love the word. So different and far removed from the over fatigued:-<\/p>\n <\/p>\n ” employees “<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n ” personnel “<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n ” human resources “<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Talent<\/em><\/span>! Just hearing the word makes you feel like doing chest bumps, offering the high five. Uttering it makes you puff up and feel good about yourself.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n You love the word because the adjacent images that come to mind include Zakir Hussain<\/em><\/span> <\/a>playing(toying with?) the tabla, Yo Yo Ma<\/em><\/span><\/a> on the cello<\/em><\/span>. Gene Hackman<\/em><\/span><\/a> in total control of a scene. Lata Mangeshkar<\/em><\/span><\/a> in crooning glory. Pavarotti<\/em><\/span> in full throttle. The quintessential Kevin De Bruyne<\/em><\/span> sublime assist. And Michael Jordan<\/em><\/span><\/a> ” parting the waters<\/em> ” … and making that famous last shot that won the Chicago Bulls<\/span><\/em><\/a> their sixth NBA Championship<\/em><\/span> <\/a>during his tenure with the team.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Talent! What a word!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n To quote editor extraordinaire Tina Brown<\/em><\/span><\/a> ” The first thing is to hire enough talent that a critical mass of excitement starts to grow “.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Coming to Your Local Cinema<\/em><\/span>: The story thus far goes like this: We lived through the Age of Agriculture.<\/em><\/span> Then the Industrial Age<\/em><\/span>. The Information Age<\/em><\/span> followed suit. And what has arrived on the Big Screen. The Age of Creation Intensification<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The white collar paper processing age is… long gone. Great products are not enough.(Not nearly enough). Great services are not enough. ( Not nearly enough). New bases for value-added are imperative- posthaste. And the revolution has only begun.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n You are not going to make it in the next new forever changing dynamic with yesteryear concepts be it TQM(Total Quality Management)<\/em><\/span> or Six Sigma<\/em><\/span> or CI(Continuous Improvement)<\/em><\/span> or any of those other New Nostrums that we so obsessively embraced 25-30 years ago. You are going to make it by providing ” Solutions<\/em><\/span> “. ..” Experiences<\/em><\/span> “..” Beautiful Systems<\/em><\/span> “..” Dream Fulfillment<\/em><\/span> “..” Design that WOWs<\/em><\/span> “..” Brands that Inspire<\/em><\/span> “.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n And this ” new stuff<\/em><\/span> ‘ is all about ” creativity<\/em><\/span> “..” imagination<\/em><\/span> “..” intellectual capital<\/em> <\/span>“. And that stuff is all about..Talent<\/em><\/span>. The new technologies that undergird the white collar revolution may seem like a dehumanizing force; but, they herald the end of “grunge<\/em><\/span>” work and thence a People’s Revolution<\/em><\/span>. In other words, a ” Talent Revolution<\/em> <\/span>“.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Fundamental premise for all those who have already(or now willing to acknowledge it)- we have entered The Age of Talent<\/span><\/em>. ” Okay, fine, ” I can hear you saying. ” Put people first. Been there and done that”. No..No..No!<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The point being made is not about people being cool, people being important. It is that ..people<\/em><\/span>(their creativity<\/em><\/span>, their intellectual capital<\/em><\/span>, their entrepreneurial drive<\/em><\/span>) is all the hell there is<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Talent<\/em><\/span>(if you are serious about it) is a 25-8-53 <\/em><\/span>affair…25 hours a day, 8 days a week <\/em>and<\/span> 53 weeks a year<\/em><\/span>. Historically, smart people have always turned to where the money was. Today, money is turning to where the smart people are.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n So, time to go beyond the ubiquitous term ” we put people first<\/em><\/span> ‘ which drops off every second corporate lip without hesitation. Putting people first is according a special meaning to the word ” first<\/em> <\/span>“.
