Cell phones never stop ringing. Emails barrage you round the clock. Being available is a 24 X 7 expectation. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Burnout is not a badge of honour<\/em><\/span> but that is exactly what is happening because the culture is calibrated that way. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>People like us do things like this<\/em><\/span>. <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">FOMO<\/span><\/em> is a malaise that is not helping any way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Even our rest times are &#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>active rest<\/em> <\/span>&#8216; at best. You stop work and your idea of rest is listening to a podcast or reading a book or playing the music of your choice, or watching a movie- all of which needs the mind to use its processing power. These are all fun diversions, a way to switch the mind\u2019s tracks without completely stopping its journey. We are never at complete rest- <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>it is almost as if complete rest makes us restless<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_-850529213763784485docs-internal-guid-08161e84-7fff-e60b-7b69-701298763567\">The pandemic only accelerated this evaporation of boundaries. There are perks of working from home, but\u00a0<span class=\"il\">one<\/span>\u00a0of the drawbacks is that we have lost\u00a0<span class=\"il\">one<\/span>\u00a0of our last safe havens.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/BUSY-vs-PRODUCTIVITY.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2196\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_-850529213763784485docs-internal-guid-08161e84-7fff-e60b-7b69-701298763567\">Taking time to escape isn&#8217;t just a luxury &#8211; it&#8217;s essential. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>No need to fill in the blank<\/em><\/span>. Use that time(blank) to think, plan, dream. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The Republic of Not Enough<\/em> <\/span>that we all are willing | unwilling citizens of, will never let you <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>slack<\/em><\/span>. Because we are deeply buried most of the time in our <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>ledger of lack<\/em><\/span>. It&#8217;s ironical to know that our best creations and inventions come during periods of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/2023\/07\/27\/breaking-the-myth-productivity-by-undoing\/\">slack<\/a> not when the mind is furiously occupied(or pre occupied). So is it almost an aberration that there is a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>productivity tool<\/em><\/span> used by many organisations around the world called <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Slack<\/em><\/span>?\u00a0 Probably not. Brilliantly counter intuitive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brandknewmag.com\/category\/branding\/\">branding<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"m_-850529213763784485docs-internal-guid-08161e84-7fff-e60b-7b69-701298763567\">But\u00a0<span class=\"il\">one<\/span>\u00a0thing is certain, we won\u2019t get this time by default &#8211; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>only by design<\/em><\/span>. Complete shut down of all senses, however short a duration it may be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Listen to the old bray of your heart. Not to the piercing shrill of your mind. \u201cSometimes sitting and doing nothing is the best thing you can do,\u201d\u00a0reminds\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.notsalmon.com\/notsalmon-story\/\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Karen Salmansohn<\/em><\/span><\/a>, best selling author of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Think-Happy-Instant-Peptalks-Positivity\/dp\/1607749629\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>THINK HAPPY<\/em><\/span><\/a>.<br \/>\nOnly by taking time to think, dream, and plan are we able to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>discern the essential few from the trivial many in our lives.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I conclude I am reminded of a brilliant campaign line of the chocolate brand <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>5 Star<\/em><\/span>&#8211; &#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/brandequity.economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/advertising\/cadbury-5-star-doubles-down-on-its-do-nothing-philosophy-with-a-new-commercial-titled-elevator\/106472395\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Eat 5 Star, Do Nothing<\/em><\/span><\/a> &#8220;.
