But, then it is not an ideal world.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Modern life comes in the way of rest and sleep. Contemporary society sets the benchmark for lesser mortals wherein if you are not <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Type A<\/em><\/span>, then you are not good enough. The <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>productivity<\/em><\/span> narrative is overwhelming and concepts like <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>FOMO<\/em><\/span> only add fuel to the fire.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Unlike what the ecosystem would have you believe, <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>burnout<\/em> <em>is NOT a badge of honour<\/em><\/span>. The perennial quest to be invincible, Machiavelli or Herculeus is all encompassing. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Burnout<\/em><\/span> is when you are all the time <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>overstimulated<\/em><\/span>. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Our culture glorifies burnout as a measure of success and self worth<\/em><\/span> and that does not help in any way. The implicit message is that if we are not <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>perpetually exhausted<\/em><\/span>, we are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>not doing enough<\/em><\/span>. As if the great things are reserved for those who bleed. For those who almost break.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As high achievers we are conditioned(conned?) to believe that the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>path to success<\/em><\/span> is only through <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>relentless work<\/em><\/span>. And if you have to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>overachieve<\/em><\/span> the only way is to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>overexert, overdo<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>overthink<\/em><\/span>. Getting ahead doesn&#8217;t have to as hard as we make it out to be. There is a better way.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1095\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Its-OVER.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"2120\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>The best way to accelerate is to take the foot off the pedal.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If one were to attempt defining <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>boreout<\/em><\/span>, it would go something like this: <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Boreout<\/em><\/span> is an informal term for a state of dissatisfaction and demotivation one may experience due to being bored at work. A state wherein repeatedly completing tasks you consider to be pointless or meaningless. When you can&#8217;t find value|meaning in your work, you feel <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>understimulated<\/em><\/span>. High levels of anxiety, depression and stress are frequently associated with<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em> boreout<\/em><\/span>. If you frequently\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>procrastinate<\/em><\/span>\u00a0\u2014 putting off important tasks in favor of other instantly-rewarding activities \u2014 it could be because of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>boreout<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The rise of &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>quiet quitting<\/em><\/span>&#8216; is a fallout of <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>boreout<\/em><\/span>. Especially amongst the GenZ&#8217;s entering the workspace. <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Quiet quitting<\/em><\/span> has nothing to do with quitting your job. Instead, you only do the work necessary to do your job successfully, often what\u2019s listed in your job description.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1096\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sureshdinakaran.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/burnout-boreout-banner-updated-2048x1151-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1151\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The toll of long hours depends on how you feel about them. People are at elevated risk of depression, anxiety, depression, sleep problems, high blood pressure and cholesterol when they burn the midnight oil based on obsession- but not when they based on passion. There&#8217;s also evidence that obsession predicts greater conflict between work and and the rest of life: you struggle to disconnect from your work, which leads to <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>burnout<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are neither robots nor a manufacturing plant.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Creativity isn\u2019t produced..you run into it, you discover it.<\/em><\/span> And that happens during moments of slack, not hard labour.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Take back the passion.
