So far as we know, the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Sumerians<\/em><\/span> invented writing\u2014cuneiform, which was wedge-shaped writing on clay tablets\u2014<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>about 3000\u00a0<\/em><\/span><span class=\"small-caps\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>b.c<\/em><\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0in the cradle of civilization, between the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Tigris<\/em><\/span> and <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Euphrates River<\/em><\/span>, now present day <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Iraq<\/em><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I know English is a funny language and the tongue doesn&#8217;t have a bone. Which is why phonetics could convey something that we are not supposed to interpret but yet we will.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Breaking up the word <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>library<\/em><\/span>, in the phonetic sense of the word, it would begin with &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>lie<\/em><\/span>&#8216; and then &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>brary<\/em><\/span>&#8216;. Truth be told, that is a lie. Nothing could be farther than the truth. A\u00a0<em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">library<\/span><\/em> is the delivery room for the birth of ideas, a place where history comes to life. A <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>library<\/em><\/span> is like a salve, a retreat, a treasure trove precisely for what lies inside it. A heady mix of &#8216;<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>dine in and take away<\/em><\/span>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>So, I won&#8217;t lie. Would &#8216; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>truthbrary<\/em><\/span> &#8216; be a better term for a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>library<\/em><\/span>?\u00a0 Let the rant continue. Read on..<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Library is the place where our self life has a shelf life<\/em><\/span>. The happy domicile at the intersection of the <em><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">self taught<\/span><\/em> and the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>shelf taught<\/em><\/span>. Libraries are the great equalizers in combating the digital divide and the information divide. It is the last man standing amongst institutions that are part of the public good.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>library<\/em><\/span>.\u201d <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Albert Einstein<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The perennial, uninterrupted, democratic access to information is the be all and end all. Which is what you find in a <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>library<\/em><\/span>. Books. That are <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>weapons, of mass construction!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the dawn of the 21st century, where knowledge is literally power, where it unlocks the gates of opportunity and success, we all have responsibilities as parents, as librarians, as educators, as politicians, and as citizens to instill in our children a love of reading so that we can give them a chance to fulfill their dreams.\u201d <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Barack Obama<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A lot of us have taken <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>libraries<\/em><\/span> for granted. They have been integral to our education, to our life, and obviously, to our careers. Being in <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>libraries<\/em><\/span> and using books has been normal; <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>libraries<\/em><\/span> as places have been \u201c<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>like home<\/em><\/span>\u201d to us. I&#8217;ll bet most of you have had the same experience with <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>libraries<\/em><\/span>, be they school, public, university, medical, hospital\u2014or whatever.
